Knowledge Development Section This can be completed by attending classroom sessions, studying independently at home, or through e-Learning. Students will learn how to supervise general diving activities, as well as assist student divers during their training, which helps develop leadership and safety skills. Additionally, the course covers dive theory, including the physics and physiology of diving, and provides in-depth knowledge about dive equipment. Furthermore, students will study decompression theory and the use of the RDP, learn how to conduct programs as a Divemaster, and understand essential aspects of risk management. The course also introduces the business side of diving, and emphasizes preparing for a professional career, focusing on water skills and physical stamina. Practical Skills and Performance Assessment Section In this section, Dive Master students develop both physical and technical diving skills. They begin with stamina assessment and development, followed by training in diver rescue skills and demonstrating confined water skills. Next, students engage in practical field applications, which include activities such as underwater mapping projects, equipment exchange exercises, and problem-solving underwater. They also practice running Divemaster-conducted programs, where they are responsible for guiding certified divers in open water. The training further involves assisting instructors with Open Water Diver students in both confined water (pools or shallow areas) and open water (sea) sessions. Additionally, students support continuing education divers in higher-level courses beyond Open Water Diver. This comprehensive training ensures that aspiring Dive Masters gain confidence in their diving skills, safety management, and ability to lead and supervise divers professionally.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Hold an Advanced Open Water Diver certification or equivalent
- Hold a Rescue Diver certification or equivalent
- Completed Emergency First Response Primary and Secondary Care training (or equivalent) within the last 12 months
- Logged at least 40 dives (minimum of 60 dives required to complete the course)
- Passed a medical examination within the last 12 months
